There was a new invention supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China for the method of the branched polymers’ preparation in high efficiency and energy saving and large-scale synthesis via emulsion polymerization at room temperature was reported by the Prof. Jiang Bibiao's group in the materials science and engineering college of Changzhou University. One tertiary amine with double bond was used as the reductant, which combined with oxidant as redox initiator, meanwhile the redox initiator system was creatively used as the branched monomers. The branched polymers in high molecular weight were obtained easily. This method is suitable for a wide range of monomers, simple polymerization reaction conditions, high monomer conversion, low production energy consumption and production cost, which creates favorable conditions for large-scale application of branched polymers.
Preparing Branched Polymer Via Emulsion Polymerization at room temperature was recently published by the United States Patent Office (United State)Patent, US 10,611,860 B2), Dr. Huang Wenyan from School of Materials Science and Engineering, is the senior inventor. A new breakthrough in high efficiency, energy saving and large-scale synthesis of Branched polymers was made on the basis of preparation for Branched polymers from this group’s first United States Patent (US 9,181,374 B2): Process for Preparing Branched Polymer. At present, this research group has obtained 2 patents authorized by the United States in this field, which indicates that our frontier research on the synthesis of branched polymers has received high recognition and attention from the international community.
